NYCHA in Your Neighborhood 2026: Forum Dates and How to Prepare
TL;DR: NYCHA has five borough-wide resident forums scheduled from September 16 through December 2, 2026. Registration is required because capacity is limited, and NYCHA asks residents to choose one forum. Each event covers every NYCHA development in that borough and is scheduled for 6:30–8:30 p.m. Bring a short, documented account of the issue you want to discuss—but keep using MyNYCHA or the Customer Contact Center for repair and maintenance requests. A forum can create direct access and follow-up; NYCHA does not promise that attendance will produce a same-day fix or resolution.
The official NYCHA in Your Neighborhood series lets NYCHA residents meet senior City and NYCHA leaders, join small-group discussions, and speak one-on-one with staff about repairs, tenancy, environmental conditions, and other needs. The fall schedule is time-sensitive: confirm the venue and logistics on NYCHA's live event page before traveling, especially because the Manhattan location has not yet been posted.
General information, not legal advice. Event dates, venues, registration capacity, accommodations, and agency procedures can change. Recheck the official NYCHA page before relying on any logistics in this guide.
NYCHA forum dates, locations, and deadlines
All five announced forums are on Wednesdays and are scheduled for 6:30–8:30 p.m. The official NYCHA event page currently says doors open at 6 p.m. for the first four listed venues; it has not yet posted Manhattan's venue or local logistics.

NYCHA says each forum covers all NYCHA developments in the host borough, not only the development or neighborhood surrounding the venue. NYCHA also asks registrants to select one forum. Use the official NYCHA in Your Neighborhood page for current details and the official registration link.
Who the forums are for—and what they can do
NYCHA's page invites NYCHA residents. It does not publish a broader eligibility rule for nonresident guests, advocates, or members of the general public, so ask NYCHA before assuming someone else may attend with you.
The announced format includes:
- small-group discussions with City and NYCHA leaders;
- one-on-one resource tables with NYCHA staff; and
- topics such as apartment repairs, tenancy concerns, heat, pests and waste, mold, lead, environmental issues, public safety, and other resident needs.
That format offers access to staff, not a promised outcome. The Mayor's Office reports that the first three forums in May and June brought together 446 New Yorkers and led to 151 issues receiving follow-up. Those figures do not mean 151 people, households, repairs, or resolved cases. The announcement does not publish a resolution rate, response-time standard, or case-closure method.
Use the forum to explain and document a problem. Do not treat attendance as a replacement for the normal channel that creates and tracks a repair request.
Registration, interpretation, and accessibility
NYCHA says registration is required because capacity is limited and asks residents to choose one forum. The official page lists Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, and American Sign Language interpretation.
For disability accommodations, NYCHA currently directs residents to:
- email accessibility@nycha.nyc.gov; or
- call 212-306-4660.
Use the event-specific request deadlines listed above. NYCHA has not yet posted a Manhattan deadline. If you need another language, an accommodation not named on the page, or clarity about a guest or advocate, contact NYCHA rather than assuming the arrangement is available.
The official pages reviewed for this guide do not state whether walk-ins, childcare, virtual participation, or free admission are available. They also do not publish a required-document list.
How to prepare a NYCHA forum issue in five steps
1. Keep the problem narrow enough to explain
Choose one main issue: for example, a recurring leak, an unresolved work order, a tenancy question, or a building condition. Write one sentence that answers:
What is happening, where is it happening, and what remains unresolved?
If you have several unrelated issues, put each on a separate page so dates and evidence do not blur together.
2. Build a short chronology
List the most important events in date order:
- when you first noticed or reported the condition;
- when you submitted a MyNYCHA request or called the Customer Contact Center;
- work-ticket or reference numbers;
- appointments, visits, closures, or cancellations; and
- the current condition.
Keep the chronology factual. Separate what you personally observed from what someone told you.
3. Bring compact evidence
The forum pages do not require specific documents, but a concise packet can help staff understand the issue. Consider bringing copies—not your only originals—of:
- relevant work-ticket numbers and current status screenshots;
- dated photographs or videos;
- short portal messages, emails, or letters;
- appointment or inspection records; and
- a one-page chronology with your development, building, and apartment information.
Remove unrelated sensitive information. Do not post another resident's personal details in a public or shared setting.
4. Ask for a specific next step
A useful request is narrower than “fix everything.” Ask the staff member to identify:
- which NYCHA team owns the next step;
- whether an existing ticket remains open;
- what information is missing;
- how follow-up will be communicated; and
- what reference number or contact route you should keep.
Do not interpret a verbal discussion as a completed work order or guaranteed resolution. Record the staff member's role, the date, and the next step you were given.
5. Preserve the follow-up trail
After the forum, write a same-day note summarizing who you spoke with, what was discussed, and what follow-up was described. Save any new reference number or written material. Continue checking the official service channel connected to the issue.
The official announcement's own numbers show why the distinction matters: an issue can receive follow-up without the public record showing whether or when it was resolved.
Keep MyNYCHA and the Customer Contact Center in the loop
NYCHA's separate service pages describe the ordinary repair and maintenance routes:
- MyNYCHA accepts repair and maintenance requests online or in the app 24 hours a day.
- The Customer Contact Center, at 718-707-7771, handles emergency calls 24 hours a day and schedules routine maintenance.
The forum announcement also directs residents needing assistance to MyNYCHA or the Customer Contact Center. That makes the forum an additional access point—not evidence that a conversation created a work ticket.
For an urgent danger, use the emergency route appropriate to the situation. Do not wait for a scheduled forum. For private-building repairs, the process is different; see the NYC landlord repair, 311, and HPD guide, which explicitly does not substitute for NYCHA's maintenance route.
These NYCHA resident forums are also different from the broader NYC Rental Ripoff Hearings. The new guide on this page owns the NYCHA-specific schedule, registration, resident topics, and MyNYCHA follow-through task.

NYCHA in Your Neighborhood FAQs
Do I have to attend the forum nearest my development?
Not necessarily. Each event covers every NYCHA development in that borough, not only the host property. NYCHA asks residents to select one forum, so use the borough event that applies to your development and follow the current registration instructions.
Is registration required?
Yes. NYCHA's event page says registration is required due to capacity limitations and asks residents to select one forum. Do not rely on walk-in availability unless NYCHA confirms it.
Can I bring a repair or tenancy issue?
Yes. Official examples include apartment repairs, tenancy concerns, environmental conditions, heat, pests and waste, mold, lead, public safety, and other needs. The sources do not promise that staff will resolve an issue during the event.
Will attending create or replace a MyNYCHA work ticket?
The official forum pages do not say that attendance creates a ticket. Continue using MyNYCHA or the Customer Contact Center for repair and maintenance tracking, and bring any existing reference number when useful.
What happened to the 151 issues from the first forums?
The Mayor's Office says 151 issues received follow-up. It does not publish how many were resolved, how quickly, or by which measure. Do not read “follow-up” as “fixed.”
Are interpretation and disability accommodations available?
NYCHA lists Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, and ASL interpretation. It provides accessibility@nycha.nyc.gov and 212-306-4660 for disability-accommodation requests, with event-specific deadlines for the first four fall forums.
Where is the Manhattan forum?
The Manhattan forum is scheduled for December 2, 2026, but NYCHA had not posted the venue or local accommodation deadline as of August 30. Check the live event page before registering or traveling.
Can a guest, advocate, or non-NYCHA resident attend?
The page invites NYCHA residents but does not publish a complete guest or advocate policy. Ask NYCHA directly rather than assuming access.
